2011 Oscar Nods Announced!

Posted on 25 January 2011 by Quaid

I don’t know about you guys, but I feel like 2010 was a great year for a wide range of excellent movies. Whereas other years were “the year of the indie film” or “the year of the epic” or “the year of the period drama,” this year has a great mix of different styles and genres.

Not only that, but it seems the Academy has done a great job of picking the cream of the crop regardless of tone or subject matter.  From Inception to The King’s Speech and Black Swan, there aren’t many movies on this list I wouldn’t want to see take away the naked gold statue.

A couple of observations: Banksy is nominated for his excellent documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop.  If he receives the award, will he be there?  Will he be in disguise in an attempt to hide his well-protected true identity?

Also, the director’s list reads as a who’s who of slightly outside-the-mainstream hollywood (meaning no Clint Eastwoods, Steven Spielbergs or Ron Howards). I would have loved to see Nolan grab a nomination, but I honestly don’t know who I would bump.

Here’s the full list:

Hopefuls: The Social Network-Best Picture and I really don’t care who wins Best Supporting Actor but it’s gonna be either Christian Bale or Geoffrey Rush.
