Campbell and Craven onboard for Scream 4 as our collective nightmare continues

I’m not a big fan of the idea of another Scream sequel. Just doesn’t sit well with me. Dimension Films topper Bob Weinstein couldn’t disagree more, and today we got even more evidence that his side is winning: Neve Campbell and Wes Craven look to be onboard for number four.

nevec_articleVariety reports that Campbell has officially signed on to reprise the role of Sidney Prescott while Craven is in talks to direct the fourth film. This development flies in the face of earlier perceptions that the next Scream film would be an all together different affair with neither Campbell or Craven’s involvement much considered. But with Courtney Cox and David Arquette already onboard for the next film as well, it looks like it will fall in nicely with the other three. Producers are already shooting for a May/April start date.

Again, don’t really know how to feel about all this. I, like many others, am of the opinion that the first two Scream films were pretty tight, but that the third one overplayed its hand with the whole postmodern horror thing and it seemed pretty clear that the franchise was at the finish line. But who knows? Wes Craven has surprised me before. Anyone see The People Under The Stairs? Shame on you if the answer is no.
