Iron Man director Jon Favreau may once again be teaming up with his star, Robert Downey, Jr. for Cowboys & Aliens, a sci-fi western taken from a graphic novel.

cowboys_and_aliensNothing’s official just yet, but according to Variety, Favreau is eyeing the film about a spaceship crash-landing on Earth just in time to interrupt the battling between a group of cowboys and a tribe of Native Americans.  Downey has been attached to the project since last summer.

Currently rewriting the script are Star Trek writers Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci, and production is looking to begin during the summer of next year.

Not sure how far Favreau will end up getting on this one, though.  I thought that he was first in line to make The Avengers, and also, someone’s probably going to want him to conjure up an Iron Man 3.  Will he have time for this?
