More concept art from Disney’s Rapunzel!

Posted on 02 August 2009 by Quaid

While I have faith in Lasseter’s new Disney animation department, so far I’ve seen nothing to really get me excited for their upcoming production of Rapunzel.  Until now.

These images are lush and classic and they remind me of old-school 2D Disney animation, even though the movie will be animated using CGI.  My hope is that they try to do something totally new with the medium and give us a type of CG that is different from what we’re used to.  I’m getting bored with the Madagascar-esque paint-by-numbers look of most 3D animation.

Check out the art below, straight from the Disney animation website.

I don’t know. It looks alright, but who wants to see a feature film version of Rapunzel? The Princess and the Frog looks bad enough with its whole “you know the story….now look what happened NEXT” angle. I worry about what they’ll do to this.
