Ron Howard to helm Robert Ludlum adaptation. But what about Stretch Armstrong?

Hans here with more news about everyone’s favorite childstar turned paint-by-numbers director with clout, Ron Howard.

ron howardVariety reports that he is now attached to direct the Robert Ludlum adaptation The Parsifal Mosaic for Universal. David Self (Road to Perdition) will adapt the book which follows a CIA man who thinks he witnessed the murder of his lover who  may have been a KGB double agent. Along with the 4th Bourne film and The Sigma Protocol, this is the third Ludlum movie to get the royal treatment at Universal. Longtime Howard partner Brian Grazer as well as Jeffery Weiner and Ben Smith will produce.

This looks like an exceedingly straightforward piece of work, but maybe Howard will excel at it. Ransom, though it falls apart from a logic standpoint, is a fairly taut thriller, and I have always felt that Howard did pretty well at directing action (although The Da Vinci Code was awkwardly done as a wannabe thriller). I have to say though, if Ron Howard is attached to that Stretch Armstrong project, then how is this movie going to fit in? I want my Stretch Armstrong movie, if for nothing else than to see how much of a colossal trainwreck it could be.

Yeah, I think he already made something like this with Da Vinci and Angels & Demons. Now, Stretch Armstrong…THAT’S some new territory. Stretch your wings, Ron!
