Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax to hit screens in 3D!

It’s time for more Seussical shenanigans in your local multiplex.  Universal Pictures and Illumination Media have teamed up for The Lorax, based on the popular book by Dr. Seuss.

LoraxCoverVariety tells us that Chris Renaud and Cinco Paul & Ken Daurio will direct the film, and Paul & Daurio will write the script.

In a completely expected move, the film will be CG animated in 3D.  It will hit theaters March 2, 2012.

While I was (just like everyone) a big Seuss fan as a kid, I think I missed this one.  The story follows a wealthy businessman who, against warnings from the tree-hugging Lorax, rips down all the forest’s Truffula trees.  As we learned in Fern Gulley: The Last Rainforest, this can only lead to bad things.

That’s right, everyone.  We need to listen to the little Lorax and take steps to reduce our carbon footprints.

If they’re going to be adapting Seuss, I’m glad to see it will be in full-blown animation.  Anything to avoid a repeat of the abysmal live-action The Cat in the Hat film.

I hope its as good as Horton… I am liking the animated Dr Seuss movies. Even if i do have to watch it a thousand times, it is way better than the Cat in the Hat remake. Hopefully they’ll make a green eggs and ham one too…
