Jon Hamm hits The Town, Ben Affleck’s next directorial effort

Mad Men‘s Jon Hamm will be starring alongside Ben Affleck and Rebecca Hall in the romantic crime thriller The Town, which will be Affleck’s next directorial feature after his success with Gone Baby Gone

hamfleckAccording to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is an adaptation of Prince of Thieves, a novel by Chuck Hogan, and is about a bank manager (Hall), the criminal (Affleck) who robbed and wooed her, and the FBI agent (Hamm) who is trying to track him down.

Sounds to me like this could shape up to be a pretty solid hard-boiled cat-and-mouse sort of affair.  If Gone Baby Gone is any indication, then Affleck certainly has the directing chops to get the job done with flying colors.  And with such a great cast, to boot, I imagine this might be a damn good flick.

Affleck wrote this script with Hogan and Peter Craig, and the film is scheduled to start shooting in September after Hamm finishes up work on Mad Men.

I’m all about Affleck behind the camera and writing scripts. The man has great talent that has been ignored (some would say squandered?) because of his pretty-boy persona.
