Now, I love me some Sam Raimi and Drag Me to Hell is easily one of my absolute favorite films of this year–so good it makes Spider-Man 3 (so bad) forgivable.
And now, according to AICN, he’s attached to make a movie based on this World of Warcraft thing that I’ve heard so much about.
I’m not a gamer at all. I have no skill in the area and no patience for them–especially role-playing games such as this. So this news doesn’t mean much to me, except I always like to here that Raimi is making anything–and certainly something in the high fantasy genre seems like something he could do some very cool things with.
But, like I said, I haven’t had much exposure to it, so maybe he’s not the right guy and will horribly destroy it for its legions of devoted fans by making it too jokey and yuck-yuck. I could see it happening. (However, as a non-fan, a yuck-yuck-high fantasy picture directed by Sam Raimi sounds awesome…and kind of like a new breed of Army of Darkness.)
No idea what this means for the fate of Spider-Man 4, though. I assume it’s still going ahead.
(UPDATE: Variety reports that this will be Raimi’s next directorial effort after the next Spider-Man. Looks like there will be a bit of a wait with this one)
Anyway, Warcraft fans, Raimi fans, I invite you to share your thoughts on this matter. Good, bad, indifferent? How’s this one sound?

I’ve been going through Fantasy withdraw ever since the end of Lord of the Rings. This is nothing but good news…an interesting world that can be manipulated in a number of different ways to make a good story. Let’s just pray they get a GREAT screenwriter.
