Well, we’ve yet to see anything of the domestic persuasion for this film just yet (aside from confirmation of its way-far-off February 10 release date), but here’s one more international trailer to take a gander at.
I Love You, Phillip Morris is the directing debut of Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, the writing team behind Bad Santa and the Richard Linklater’s remake of The Bad News Bears. It’s the true story of Steven Russel (Jim Carrey), a gay con-man who broke out of prison four times to be with the cell-mate he fell in love with, the titular Phillip Morris (Ewan McGregor).
The film debuted at Sundance earlier this year and played again at Cannes. It had a bit of a rocky time being picked up for American distribution, as it was feared that the movie was “too gay.” It was eventually picked up by Consolidated Pictures Group.
This new trailer gives us some new stuff, but is pretty similar to the first foreign trailer. It also gives us a bit better idea of the film’s structure.
Anyway, it looks like the film could be pretty interesting…even if it does end up walking a tightrope between serious and goofy.
