This trailer for Neill Blomkamp’s District 9 is a little more action packed then I was expecting, but it’s also interesting as hell. Especially since after watching it, I’m not really sure what level of hostility the aliens have for humans.
I have my fingers crossed that it doesn’t turn into a cut-and-paste “us versus them” movie, and based on the early marketing campaign, I think I have nothing to fear.
The effects are stunning, the designs are gritty and realistic (but still cool) and the style seems to walk that thin line between ultra-real and cinematic very effectively. This is quickly climbing my “must-see” list.

And a thanks to Jon Gretar below who points out that this feature is based on Blomkamp’s short film Alive in Joberg, embedded below for your viewing pleasure.

Me thinks Peter Jackson has been playing Half-Life 2.

I’m so happy for the director that he has gotten this opportunity. I think he must very talented for someone like Peter Jackson to support and back him. Hopefully, this will mean an international career for him like Gavin Hood.

For those who don’t know. Neil Blomkamp is actually basing this on a short-film he once made called “Alive in Joburg”. It’s available on youtube and google video to watch. REally interesting and fun. Touches a lot on racism and apartheid.

Im really impressed with that trailer. I really enjoyed the Halo short films that he did with peter jackson so i have very high hopes for this. Looks like a classic sci fi film in progress to me.

Ok, so i’m a little confused. The humans restrict them to this district 9 area, then one day the aliens get pissed and want to leave, so they fight back… and the humans have a hard time doing it… Then how did they restrict them to the area to begin with?
