I’m not sure who the hardcore fans of this franchise are–that is, who makes this series worthy of three sequels. Everyone I know who likes the films is luke-warm toward them at best.
That’s not stopping Sony, though. ShockTillYouDrop has reported that the fourth installment in the series will hit screens by September 17, 2010.
Paul W.S. Anderson, the lesser of the directing Andersons who brought us the disappointing Alien vs. Predator, will be returning to the franchise in at least a writing capacity. No word on whether he will direct.
The new movie is rumored to be called Resident Evil: Afterlife. Every time I think they can’t find a word to complete the logical progression of titles, the studios prove me wrong.
Personally, I have very little feeling about this movie one way or the other. I don’t think the previous installments are particularly good, but it has a fan base and I say let them have their fun. I might catch it on DVD.
