Guy Pearce is in final negotiations to star in a remake of the 1973 TV-movie Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, co-starring Katie Holmes and Bailee Madison.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is set to begin shooting next month in Australia, and it is being produced by none other than the busiest man in Hollywood, Guillermo del Toro, who also co-wrote the script with Matthew Robbins. It will be directed by Troy Nixey.
Like I said, never seen the original, but it nevertheless sounds like it could be pretty cool–especially with del Toro backing it–and I always love me a good Guy Pearce role (everyone who hasn’t seen The Proposition should do so immediately).
I know we’re always bitching about remakes, but this one seems like a movie that could probably stand a remake–a low-budget TV horror flick that captured a lot of kids’ imaginations back in the day and then drifted off into obscurity. Remaking it is a nice way to introduce it to people such as myself who didn’t grow up with it. (And having del Toro on board is a plus, too!)
