Seeing Stan Lee make his obligatory cameo in each and every one of the films based on his properties has become a kind of national geek pastime. He’s been in all the Spider-Man movies, the X-Men movies, Fantastic Four, and Iron Man just to name a few.
So it comes as no surprise that Stan the Man himself will be making a cameo in the second Iron Man film being directed by Jon Favreau. This time, though, Lee will be appearing in a larger (but still technically “cameo”) role as talk show host Larry King (according to Nuke the Fridge).
Rumor has it that Lee will be faux interviewing Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark about his Iron Man antics.
I guess, now that I think of it, Lee and King do bear a striking resemblance, but I can’t really see Stan doing the voice. It doesn’t matter…this little touch is a nice, fun in-joke for fans and a good way to keep Lee’s cameos surprising and fresh. It feels perfectly in line with the subtle tongue-in-cheek tone of the original film.
Just one more reason to elevate the Iron Man 2 hype to some new standard of high levels that can’t really be lived up to.
