Hayo Miyazaki’s Ponyo trailer shows us masterful 2-D animation at its best.

Posted on 23 June 2009 by Quaid

I’ll keep this short. I am not a huge Hayo Miyazaki fan. I appreciate his artistry and his storytelling abilities. But his movies just don’t click with me.

That being said, I realize that I’m in the minority, and I can totally appreciate why someone would be gaga for Princess Mononoke or Spirited Away, movies that I enjoyed but never fell in love with.

What I will say, though, is this: I wish they’d release these movies subtitled in their native language instead of forcing a group of name American actors into a voice studio for a day.

The imagery looks to be just as rich and stunning as animation fans have come to expect from the master.  Enjoy the trailer below.
