Fincher…Cameron…Snyder…Verbinski…all in one film. Heavy Metal!

Posted on 07 June 2009 by Quaid

Heavy Metal magazine is legendary.  The magazine even inspired a 1981 film (coincidentally entitled Heavy Metal) that was a collection of dark fantasy stories.

heavymetal1Now, David Fincher is stepping up to the plate to put together another Heavy Metal project.  This news alone should be enough to get you psyched for the film, but there’s more.  A lot more.

Today, Film School Rejects reports that the film will have segments directed by Fincher, James Cameron, Zack Snyder, and Gore Verbinski.  Also, there will be a comedy segment featuring Mark Osborne and Jack Black from “Tenacious D.”

All right, if you aren’t excited for this…if there isn’t at least ONE of these directors who butters your bread…well, there’s little hope for you.

The news came out of an interview with “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” co-creator Kevin Eastman.  Click HERE to find the whole interview.

I am ashamed to say I haven’t seen the original Heavy Metal film, but I will absolutely run right out to find it.  These kinds of movies are almost always a blast, filled with short, tightly written stories directed by talented filmmakers who have the time and resources to squeeze every interesting idea from the material.  And with an anthology coming from this kind of a talent pool, how can it be anything less than great?

quaid, why are you excited about this movie if you’ve never even seen the original? i bet you dont listen to metal or do drugs either. are you familiar with the magazine even? probably not.

so far there isnt a single person involved that should be, if they want to make a proper heavy metal for today lets see rob zombie do a short, brendon small (metalocalypse), mike judge, maybe the superjail! guys could get in on it. you know, guys who have something do with the both the metal culture and animation, because, you know, none of the assholes attached so far are. oh and they could get brian posehn to do some work with the stories.

damn quaid, after writing that i realize, you suck. why are you writing a post about heavy metal when you obviously know jackshit about it? fuck, you never even saw the original.

Electric…I am not a metal head. I reported the news based on my excitement of seeing a group of talented filmmakers involved in a project together…and because as a news site (about movies, not metal), this is a news worthy article.

I was pretty straightforward about my ignorance with this project. Actually, the list of filmmakers you put together does sound interesting…as a non-fan of this franchise, I have my opinions, but I’d hate for the people involved to put together something that disappointed the true “Heavy Metal” fans.

Also, what’s your thought on the Heavy Metal 2000 movie. Word is it sucked, so I’m thinking of not even bothering.

Hey electric – Are you seriously still in that high school state of mind where doing drugs means that you’re “cooler” than everyone else? Grow up. The rest of us have. Or are you just saying that Heavy Metal is the kind of movie that’s only worthwhile if you’re on drugs? Because that doesn’t really help your case, either.

“why are you excited about this movie if you’ve never even seen the original?” you ask. If you read the article, I’m sure you’ll see that it’s because there are a lot of interesting filmmakers joining in on the collaboration. And seeing as this is a movie news website, that kind of thing is more likely to click with the writers here than any of what would appeal to you about it. It seems pretty cut and dry to me.

Just what kind of stick of superiority is crammed up your ass to where you’re the only one who’s allowed to have an opinion on this? Quaid already gave you far more civility than you deserve and I hope it sends you with your tail between your legs.

Damn electic funeral, after writing that I realize what a useless tool you are. Why are you commenting on a movie news website when you obviously don’t care about movies?
