Park Chan-wook’s vampire tale, Thirst, which won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival a couple weeks ago, has been picked up for domestic distribution by Focus Features! According to AICN, the film will be seeing the light of day in the United States on July 31.
I am positively psyched about this, personally. I assumed it would be forever before I would be able to see this film, but it looks as if it’s coming much sooner than later. Yesterday I posted my Five Films Worth Looking Forward To for the rest of the summer, and little did I know at the time that we’d have this one to add to the list!
I’m hearing nothing but great things about this movie and that third-place win at Cannes certainly helps fuel my anticipation, too! His brilliant Oldboy won the Grand Prix (second place) in 2004 and turned out to be one of my absolute favorite films of the decade!
I can’t wait to see his distinct artistic style placed in the realm of vampire mythology. It’s sure to be lyrical, transgressive, and scintillating. I am so damn excited!
The trailer below is sadly unsubtitled, but I thought you might want to bask in the sweeping thrill of it anyway.
