Fans of the Buffy series have been anxiously awaiting word on whether there will ever be a movie version of the television show. Fans of the original movie hold it up as a camp comedy classic.
So it’s likely to piss off both camps that Buffy the Vampire Slayer is yet again getting the reboot treatment, and as of now it will have no connection to either the original movie or the television series.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the goal with this new property is to make “a darker, event-sized movie that would, of course, have franchise potential.”
I personally am a big fan of the original movie, and doing a “serious, dark” version of the character seems a bit counterintuitive. I mean, the whole point was that a young, teenage vampire slayer was a fresh, funny, slightly campy concept. If you take it 100% seriously, it might as well be Blade…right?
There is a bigger story to be mined here. While I love all kinds of old-school properties and have differing feelings about the recent (read five years) slew of reboots, I have to say…
Enough with the damn remakes already! (I’m sure I’m the only one who feels this way)
Interesting side note…earlier we reported that Flight of the Navigator is getting the reboot treatment. What’s with remaking Pee-Wee’s non Pee-Wee movies???
