The remake mill almost gets annoying when it comes to trying to report on these things. Half the announced remakes never see the light of day, and three out of four of the ones that do get made suck. A lot.
First off, Variety reports that Studio Canal is remaking the Sly Stallone mountain-climbing actioner Cliffhanger. This time, of course, they are casting young twenty-somethings in the roles…
“Just as they rebooted Star Trek, we’re going to do the same withCliffhanger, ” says the producer.
Yeah…’cause they’re totally the same animal. Once again, it seems Hollywood is jumping on the latest bandwagon of doing whatever was done in the last successful series…
But wait! There’s more! The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Dreamworks has plans to reboot the ’80′s horror comedy Fright Night. The original Tom Holland film followed a teenage protagonist as he dealt with his vampiric neighbor.
You know what? This is kind of a good movie to remake. The original was great, but there is room for improvement, and if it’s done with a tongue-in-cheek tone, a remake could be a lot of fun.
Feel free to disagree violently.
