Second McG Terminator Prequel takes John Connor to the past?! McG Reveals Details!

Hi all, Quaid here.  Seems McG let slip some major details about the second of three planned sequels in the Terminator franchise.  What lies ahead could be considered “spoilerish.”terminator_poster02

Apparently, the sequel to Terminator Salvation will involve John Connor traveling back in time to before Judgement Day.

Here is a quote from Film Journal

“As he puts the finishing touches on Terminator Salvation, McG is already looking ahead to the next chapter in what the studio hopes will be another trilogy. ‘I strongly suspect the next movie is going to take place in a [pre-Judgment Day] 2011,” McG reveals. “John Connor is going to travel back in time and he’s going to have to galvanize the militaries of the world for an impending Skynet invasion. They’ve figured out time travel to the degree where they can send more than one naked entity. So you’re going to have hunter killers and transports and harvesters and everything arriving in our time and Connor fighting back with conventional military warfare, which I think is going to be fucking awesome. I also think he’s going to meet a scientist that’s going to look a lot like present-day Robert Patrick [who famously played the T-1000 in Terminator 2], talking about stem-cell research and how we can all live as idealized, younger versions of ourselves.’”

Robert Patrick in the sequels?  Sounds kinda cool.  I am onboard as long as they somehow tie everything in to the original films and make the insane logic of time-travel make sense.

Maybe I’m asking too much.  But I’m glad to know that they are thinking outside the box for the sequels to this summer’s blockbuster

I like the sound of that, but it almost sounds like the movie I’d rather be watching instead of Salvation. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot about Salvation that sounds good, but I’m still more than a little leery of McG–he has a lot to prove to get my trust–and the PG-13 definitely irritates me too. The plot points I’ve heard regarding Salvation don’t exactly wow me either. I’ll still be there Opening Day, hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

I’m with you Rick…but the trailers look so good, so creative, and so unlike any terminator films we’ve had before (while still feeling quintessentially “terminator” somehow) that I have to just trust McG. But this is his one chance for me. If he screws this up, it’s going to be nearly impossible for him to win fanboy support again.
