For those of you clamoring for an independent film based on one of John Milton’s famous works, the wait is over. ”Paradise Lost” is coming to a cineplax near you.
The film will be co-produced by Granite Entertainment, STV Networks, and producer Martin Poll, and will have a budget of $30-$35 million.
Which is a healthy amount of money for an independent film, but seems a little lean considering Milton’s play is about Satan’s fall from grace. I always pictured that scenario with machine guns and Sly Stallone slitting people’s throats in a huge-budget action scene…but that’s just me. Maybe they’re going the minimalist, “tasteful” route here…
Oh wait, I almost forgot to mention…there is ANOTHER “Paradise Lost” film getting made by Legendary Pictures and Vincent Newman Entertainment. Looks like we’re going to have ourselves a “battle of the paradise’s.” I really wonder why Hollywood does this…(read more on that subject HERE).
Scott Derrickson is attached to direct the bigger-budgeted Legendary Pictures version, while Poll’s long in-development (since the 60′s) version is still looking for a director. It does have a couple of actors set to play Adam and Eve, though, in unknowns David Dunham and Patricia Li Bryan.
They’re looking for a big star to play Satan. I vote Roseanne Barr. Chills.

Dammit. TWO Paradise Lost movies and not one of them is a third part of the West Memphis Three documentaries. Sadness.
