We are T-minus five days away from the official start of the summer movie season. And our first film out of the starting gate might have an old-school trick up its sleeve.
First Showing is reporting that director Gavin Hood let slip that X-Men Origins: Wolverine will contain multiple different endings attached to different prints. So you’ll never know which one you are going to see in the theater.
This trick was pulled with a little movie called Clue back in the ’80’s. It didn’t work out too well then.
The only difference is that this time the endings are less dramatically different–each less than a minute long and each a variation on the same theme.
So what’s the point, really?
I’m guessing this is a way to combat the news that the workprint that leaked a month or so back is almost identical to the theatrical print, even though Fox said there was a massive difference. I doubt, though, that multiple one-minute stingers are going to make or break this film, though.
