All right, we got so swept up in Predator fever yesterday with the news that Robert Rodriguez is set to reboot the franchise that we neglected another piece of awesome news.
Robert Rodriguez is officially set to direct Machete, an action film based on the faux trailer appearing before Grindhouse. And yes, Danny Trejo will be our knife and gun wielding uber-badass Mexican. They start shooting sometime in June.
Variety gives us a few more details:
“Machete is a Mexican ex-Federale with a gift for wielding a blade, who hides out as a day laborer, who is double-crossed by a corrupt state senator.
Rodriguez wrote the script and will direct the film with Ethan Maniquis, his longtime editor. The film is being produced by Rodriguez, Rick Schwartz of Overnight Productions and Aaron Kaufman.”

So, it looks like between this and Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving, we’ll get at least two features based on Grindhouse trailers. Now if only Rob Zombie would flesh out Werewolf Women of the S.S….
