Well, throw another project on the long list of projects in line for David O. Russell’s resurrected career. The director has just signed on to direct Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale in The Fighter for relativity media.
The story centers on Irish Mickey Ward (did they mention he was Irish?), played by Wahlberg. He’s on a quest to win the world lightweight title, but he can’t do it without the help of his formerly drugged-out brother (Bale) who used to be quite the prize fighter in his own right.
Once again, I’m surprised to find Russell sign on to projects that seem so traditional, but he’s a hell of a talented director, so I’m excited about this.
And I think it’s official…Christian Bale is going to be in absolutely every movie made from here on out.
David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman are producing for relativity media. Shooting starts in July. Check out Variety for the rest of the story.
