X-Men Origins News: Donner hoping to produce a third

Posted on 15 April 2009 by HansKlopek

We might be getting a third in the X-Men Origins series, as producer Lauren Shuler Donner wants to produce X-Men: First Class.

x-men_evolution_1Donner told the Fox Film Channel that she wants the film to track the origins of Xavier’s first class, with young Cyclops, young Jean Grey, and Young Beast all as primary characters. She also said that the hope is for these characters to go off to establish their own stories and weave back into the X-Men world.

With X-Men Origins: Wolverine hitting theaters in a couple of weeks and X-Men Origins: Magneto still in development, this must be music to the ears of any heavy fan of the franchise. I gotta say, I’m a little let down by the fact that Gossip Girl creator Josh Schwartz is who they have signed to pen the script. Schwartz also created The O.C., which I watched with unbridled glee for two seasons, but I still think of him as a lightweight when it comes to adapting anything substantial. Is First Class going to turn into a teen soap opera? While that might be funny, I hope the dude rises above and actually captures the right tone.
