Hans here with a bit of casting news. According to Variety, James Franco and Mark Wahlberg have joined the cast of the new romantic comedy Date Night. I have to say I’m intrigued. It sounds like some bogus romantic comedy formula filtered through the plot of After Hours.
Steve Carrell and Tina Fey will play a married couple who get caught up in chaos during their one night alone. Wahlberg is set to play a securities expert who has the hots for Fey and Franco is supposed to play a dim con man and petty criminal. The cast also includes Leighton Meester (that Gossip Girl hottie) as the couple’s babysitter and Taraji P. Henson (capitalizing on her Oscar nominated name value) as a cop that the couple encounter along the way.
Shawn “Night at the Museum” Levy is set to direct this picture. I’m not quite sure what to think about it, but it has the potential to be awesome. I’m glad to see Franco continuing on the comedy path and, based on his hilarious, criminally underrated work in I Heart Huckabees, I’m psyched to see Wahlberg do another comedy. Also, I don’t think I’ve ever seen Tina Fey and Steve Carrell do anything together. This could be a lot of fun.
