I thought it was bad enought when the third film based off of a certain Disney World ride grazed the edges of three hours long, but now Michael Bay’s second toy-inspired movie actually has the gall to hit a 147-minute runtime! Honestly! How much plot can there actually be??
The Dark Knight fully deserved to be that long because it actually had a story and real characters who we actually cared about. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is purely a special effects movie that really should be about 45 minutes long if it has any prayer of using up the gimmick before it gets old.
Michael Bay told MTV, “It’s four minutes longer than the last one. So, go figure it out.” I have no idea what he’s talking about in that last sentence. I know certain things are very difficult for Michael Bay, so maybe he wants us to double check his math.
Hmmm…let’s see. The first one was 143 entirely-too-long minutes. And this one is 147 entirely-too-long minutes. 147 minus 143 is…four. Yeah it’s four. Michael Bay was right.
I don’t know why I’m so outraged. I guess I should’ve expected it and is only four minutes more than the previous one. But it bothered the hell out of me with that one too. I just don’t have the patience for 30-minute action scenes that care more about special effects than actual suspense.
