Michael Sheen, the Frost from Frost/Nixon and Tony Blair from The Queen, will be playing one of a race of glittery vampires in New Moon, the upcoming sequel to Twilight.
Sheen has been cast as Aro, the leader of a band of Italian vampires called the Volturi. According to the story from The Daily Mail, Sheen was aggressively pursued by the film’s director, Chris Weitz.
Weitz had this to say about the role: “Michael is so important because he’s the head of all vampires. Aro is, on the surface, a very gracious and friendly vampire, but beneath that he is a tremendous threat.
This isn’t Sheen’s first dabbling in the vampire genre. In 2003, he co-starred in that wonderful little treasure known as Underworld. I don’t know what it is with this guy and bad vampire movies, but to each his own, I guess.
