A Goonies sequel…without the Goonies?

Posted on 09 April 2009 by Quaid

There were rumors flying around a while back about a Goonies sequel getting made.  It was supposed to involve all the characters coming back together as adults for a treasure hunt (or something like that).

gooniesThen there was an alternate rumor where it was going to be about the kids of the grown-up original characters.  None of this happened.

Well, now The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Warner Bros. is making a movie called The Treehouse Gang.  And it’s about six adult characters who come together to hunt treasure, just like they did when they were kids.  Of course life-lesson-learning and inner-child-finding no doubt ensue.

Kent Alterman, the director of Semi-Pro is attached to direct.

This sounds like a good movie…but it’d be so much cooler if it were a Goonies movie.  That way we’d have the backstory already in our heads, we’d know who the characters used to be, and we’d connect on a whole other level (if it were done well).

Or maybe this should be a modern-day sequel of The Monster Squad.  That would be fan-flippin’-tastic.
