Verbinski ditches Pirates, boards Bioshock!

It seems that next time Captain Jack Sparrow sets sail, there will be another director at the helm.

bioshockGore “Mouse Hunt” Vebinski has given his pal Jerry Bruckheimer a call to inform him that the next Pirates of the Caribbean, tentatively slated to start production in 2010, should not look to him for directing duties.  Instead, Gore will focus on other projects such as the video game adaptation Bioshock.  According to Variety, this will most likely be the director’s next movie.  The script has already been written by Aviator scribe John Logan.

Verbinski is also involved (somehow) in a movie based on Hasbro’s “Clue” board game.

Now, I don’t know too much about the “Bioshock” video games, but I have friends who say the story is compelling, frightening, and unique.  Something about an underwater world of geniuses gone awry with crazy genetically mutated monster creatures?  (I might have that wrong). I loved all three Pirates but don’t think we really need another, so this seems like a fun and smart move on the part of Verbinski.

A video game movie AND a board game movie? Someone’s moving up in the world…

I always liked the Pirates movies but three is definitely enough.
