Sony sits in the “Shadow of the Colossus”

In a continuing “video game adaptation” thread, Sony Pictures is set to adapt the PlayStation 2 cult video game “Shadow of the Colossus” into a feature film, says the trades.

shadow-of-the-colossusThe game has players ride on horseback to slay a number of colossal monsters.  The script is to be written by Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li scribe Justin Marks.

I think I just lost about 80% of the interested readers.

So…I really don’t get this. The video game, I know, made a lot of money when it came out in 2005, but this title doesn’t have too much brand awareness, and the premise seems stock enough that you could (and should) do your own original “monster-slayer” movie.  Why adapt video games with overly simple stories that are fairly obscure?

Ah well, I guess Hollywood is so afraid of original material that they’ll take any thin property they can get their hands on.

this game is awesome it teaches you about the way of life. you cant bring back the dead no matter how you try (even though in this by him sacrificing himself she lived) but thats not the point. the point is that people do crazy things when their loved one leaves off to a better place. this shows us that dead is dead and their are consequences for bad actions that you do.
