Kal Penn, Kumar of the Harold and Kumar franchise, has given up his acting career and taken a job in the Obama administration.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Penn–who is part of the cast of the popular TV show House–is quitting acting to become an associate director in the Office of Public Liaison for President Barak Obama. His character on House committed suicide on Monday’s episode, so that ties up that loose end. Yay!
Penn explained to EW what exactly the Office of Public Liaison does:
“They do outreach with the American public and with different organizations. They’re basically the front door of the White House. They take out all of the red tape that falls between the general public and the White House. It’s similar to what I was doing on the [Obama presidential] campaign.”
Penn said he’s “not necessarily” retiring from acting, but for now I guess we shouldn’t hold our breath for Harold and Kumar Save Christmas.
Anyway it’s interesting news. The first headline I saw for this just said “Penn to quit acting and pursue White House” and I just assumed they meant Sean Penn. And who would give a shit about that?
