Paul Weitz directs some “Fockers.”

Hi all.  Quaid here.  Variety is reporting that Paul Weitz, director of American Dreamz and In Good Company, will be helming the new Meet the Parents sequel currently titled Little Fockers.

paulweitzThe movie will, no doubt, follow the characters of the original two movies as they have children.  It will be like Father of the Bride 2 only with raunchier humor and a lot of “Focker” puns.

Paul Weitz is, of course, brother of Chris Weitz who directed The Golden Compass.  The one-time directing team also made American Pie and the stellar Nick Hornby adaptation About a Boy.

I am not getting too excited over this decision.  Sure, when you look at American Pie Weitz seems to fit, but with Dreamz (flawed, but interesting) and Company, Weitz showed that he was really trying to develop a different style and voice.  I don’t relish the idea of seeing him go back to the same old thing.

Me either. Why did Jay Roach think he was suddenly too good for this material?

He might be too good for this material. That’s just not saying much. Who knows, though, maybe they’ll reinvent the franchise. I say “reboot” with Nick Nolte.
