A Nightmare on Elm Street…in Connecticut??? Casting news!

Posted on 03 April 2009 by Quaid

Quaid here, with a huge bit of interesting casting news regarding the new A Nightmare on Elm Street reboot.

kylegallnerBloody-Disgusting is reporting that Kyle Gallner from The Haunting in Conneticut is in final talks to portray Quentin, the new movie’s equivalent to Johnny Depp.

Now, this might not be earth-shattering news, to be honest.  Basically it boils down to “hot teenage horror actor cast in hot teenage horror movie,” but after Shep’s violently angry review of Connecticut, I just wanted to post this and attempt to send him into convulsions.  Me, I haven’t seen Connecticut yet so I have no thoughts on Gallner’s acting chops.

jackie-earle-haleyOh, and you know how Jackie Earl Haley was rumored a few weeks back to play Freddy?  Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that it is now a done deal.  And I, for one, could not be happier about that pick.  His Rorschach was about as perfect as you can get, and he was able to portray a cartoonish bravado along with a very real emotional core. I feel like he’ll bring something new but respectful and menacing to this role.   Let’s see him dice up some teenagers, shall we?

I have no thoughts on Gallner. He wasn’t bad, really. He wasn’t good either. He just kinda…was. And I guess that’s what a movie like this calls for. I like the casting of Haley, though! Very cool! It’s tough to imagine anyone besides Robert Englund playing Freddy, but I’m more than willing to give this a shot. What really scares me about the project is that script review from a couple weeks back and the fact that it’s being put out by damn Platinum Dunes. None of that bodes well. Haley is too good for the movie they’re planning to make.
