Quaid here. As I said earlier, I am attempting to flush out all the negativity I’ve heard about this project and get jazzed for Spike Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are. With images like these coming out, that isn’t too difficult.
Regardless of whether the story of the movie ends up working, I think it’s safe to say we will have a visual feast on our hands. It’s subtle and simple and practical feeling. The whole thing feels like it came out of an eight-year-old’s imagination and then was wrapped in a dreamlike light and classic feeling.
I have faith. I want this movie to be good and not subscribe to the modern visual-assault brand of kid-filmmaking. So far so good. I think we will learn a lot more when we see a trailer. The tone of those first shots strung together with music might tell us everything we need to know about what Jonze is going for.
