Quaid here. Seems Peter Segal, director of Get Smart, The Longest Yard, and 50 First Dates is set to direct Little Fockers, the sequel to Meet the Fockers (the sequel to Meet the Parents). Jay Roach directed the first two in the series, and I’m not sure just any comedy director can step in and “get it” (note the sarcasm).
Say what you will, the original Meet the Parents was quite funny, but it was a comic sensibility that does feel just a little bit dated. We’ve moved on to the Judd Apatow brand of meandering humor with a heart and away from the There’s Something About Mary brand of…well, meandering humor with a heart, but with more sight gags.
I think if you put Focker in the title of a movie, though, it will probably automatically make $75-100 million. Sad times.
