We heap a lot of praise on Pixar, and God knows they deserve it. Sometimes it feels like they are the only company that truly understands animation and storytelling. They seem like the only group that can get you involved with characters whether you’re five or eighty-five.
I’m not a fan of Shrek or Ice Age. Those movies feel gimmicky…like they’re trying too hard and aren’t compelling. I hate the “nudge-nudge-adult” jokes that are supposed to make me gasp and say “I can’t believe they put this in a kids movie!!!” I just roll my eyes.
That all being said, this trailer for Columbia Pictures’ Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs actually looks very cute. It seems they came up with a good concept and have squeezed out every cool sight gag they could. I also love the style of the film which feels very “stop-motion” for some reason. I think it’s the character designs and simple textures.
Of course, story is king and we won’t know if this delivers until it hits theaters in 3D. I’ll be there though. This looks pretty damn good.
