UPDATE: That 2011 has now become 2012. A costly typo or reporting error on Variety’s part that spread like wildfire through the internet.
Here is the original post:
The third film in Michael Bay’s franchise based on a toy (that, need I remind you is–as of right now–still only one movie long) has been given the date of July 1, 2011.
According to Variety, Paramount says that they wanted to claim the Independence Day weekend date for Transformers 3 before somebody else (Will Smith) did. It always pains me a little when a release date precedes a script, but I guess that’s Hollywood, right? There’s no word yet on whether the usual suspects, Michael Bay, Shia LeBeouf, and Megan Fox will return, but I hear they love money and have no integrity, so I wouldn’t count them out just yet.
And for all of you out there who I know are wondering, July 1, 2011 is over a year before the Mayan calender ends and life as we know it on Earth will cease to exist (according to Roland Emmerich, anyway). I just thought you’d be thankful to know that Paramount Pictures fully intends on getting this movie out to you before the world ends. You’re welcome.
