Star Trek director and Lost producer JJ Abrams is set to be producing a film about Italian diamond thieves based on an article from Wired magazine.
According to Variety, the film will be detailing the events of “the world’s biggest diamond heist,” which was headed up by Leonardo Notarbartolo, who headed up a gang of thieves who penetrated what was thought to be an impenetrable vault below the Antwerp Diamond Center and made off with over $100 million worth of diamonds. Notarbartolo was arrested in 2003 and sentenced to ten years in prison, but he was just released this past week and is now back on the streets, obviously plotting one last heist before he goes completely legit. Like they do.
Joshua Davis, who wrote the orignal article, has developed many of his previous articles into films. This article will be featured in the April issue of Wired magazine. Abrams will be producing the film under his Bad Robot production company. Also producing the film is City of Confusion, which represents Davis.
