Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke, who was not asked back to direct its upcoming sequel, New Moon apparently plans to stay within the realm of adapting young adult fiction.

7263676EV011_nativAccording to The Hollywood Reporter, Hardwicke is currently in talks with Sony to develop and direct a film based on the Maximum Ride book series by James Patterson. The five-part series is about six genetically altered half-human half-bird flying teenagers who escape the lab where they were created only to be hunted down by half-human half-wolves called The Erasers.  Yeah, this is a huge step up from glittery vampires that love baseball.

But if that sounds too ridiculous for you, don’t worry! Don Payne, who wrote the script for Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer is penning this one, so you know it’ll be good. Avi Arad, Ari Arad, and Steven Paul are the producers and Patterson is executive producing.
