Dawn Treader Full Steam Ahead! Petroni to write next Narnia

It looked like the movie wasn’t going to happen.  A couple of months back, Disney decided to stop co-financing the Narnia movies, and Walden Media had to search for another sugar daddy.

dawn-treaderNow 20th Century Fox is helping to foot the bill, and The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader is moving forward.  I think all involved are hoping it is better (and more successful) than the last installment, Prince Caspian.

The writer on the project is now Michael Petroni, whose credits include Queen of the Damned and The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys.  Both are wildly uneven movies, but one overcomes this to be pretty damn good (I’ll leave it to you to decide which).

Petroni replaces Caspian writer Richard LaGravanese.  The movie is eyeing a release date of December (ish) 2010.

I need to watch “Caspian.” I thought I’d be totally down with “Narnia” since that’s usually the type of thing I enjoy, but I was really let down. It just seemed shallow and rushed to me, but everyone else seemed to like it.
