Looks like Eddie Murphy is going to start cussing again.
As a kid, my favorite stand-up film was always Eddie Murphy’s Raw, in which there is a great moment of Murphy imitating an angry phone call from Bill Cosby, who told Murphy his act was too dirty. Murphy followed the bit up with a phone call to Richard Pryor who, upon hearing of Cosby’s displeasure, said “the next time the motherfucker call tell him I said suck my dick.”
If you have always wanted two hours of these type of moments, your wait may be over. Bill Condon, director of such classics as Dreamgirls, Kinsey, and Candyman 2: Farewell to the Flesh, is shopping a biopic about Pryor around Hollywood with Murphy attached. Entertainment Weekly has reported that Fox Searchlight is interested in the script, entitled Richard Pryor: Is it Something I Said?
Murphy looks like he is desperate for that Oscar that eluded him on Dreamgirls, but he would probably fit better into the skin of Pryor than that of the James Brown-facsimile that gave me night sweats in Dreamgirls. And we all know from Condon’s films as well as his first foray into producing the Academy Awards this year that his name is the staple of quality.
Wow, a biopic that I am actually kind of stoked about.
