Well, the world disappointed me yet again this weekend as the one-man movie set Tyler Perry dominated the box office with his new film, Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail. The comedy made a staggering $41.1 million in its opening weekend, beating out all of the competition by a pretty wide margin.
Taken, starring Liam Neeson, jumped up one spot to number 2 with $11.4 million, bringing its total gross thus far to $95.2 million. And the fantastic Coraline jumped up two spots to number 3, with $11 million, taking its total to $53.4 million. He’s Just Not That Into You dropped down two spots to number 4, earning $8.5 million and Danny Boyle’s Oscar favorite Slumdog Millionaire, saw an enormous boost, propelling it to the number 5 spot with $8 million, a 10.5% increase over last week.
But where, oh where is last week’s number 1 film, the dreadful remake of Friday the 13th?? Why, resting uneasily in the number 6 spot with $7.8 million, a whopping 80.7% decrease from last week. Word of mouth must have gotten around about this one.
Here’s the rest of the top ten:
7. Confessions of a Shopaholic – $7.0 million
8. Paul Blart: Mall Cop – $7.0 million
9. Fired Up – $6.0 million
10. The International – $4.5 million
