Hello, all you folks like me…eagerly awaiting the release of Watchmen so insanely it kinda makes your brain hurt. As if the hype and the ingenius viral marketing campaign for this movie couldn’t be more awesome, Veidt Enterprises is treating us to a classic-style Minutemen video game!
It’s not a perfect game, but that’s the point! Navigation is a little hard and you can only play as either Nite Owl I or Silk Spectre I. It reminds me of a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games I used to play as a kid. Basically you’re just walking around punching and kicking people and eventually you come upon Moloch, who stands there throwing knives at you, while more goons come up to you, requiring some punching and kicking. It took me a while to figure out how to get up and down a flight of stairs, but what would an old-timey arcade game be without standing at a dead end for a minute or so, asking “Well, where the hell do I go now??” So I’m not going to tell you how. It’s part of the experience. Enjoy it (besides, it probably won’t even be an issue for anyone but me).
It’s brief, but I enjoyed the hell out of it and I hope this is as close as we ever come to a Watchmen videogame, although I’m sure it won’t be. As is, it stands as further proof that everyone involved with this adaptation seems to get it (for lack of a better and/or less pretentious and arrogantly exclusive term). So if you have a few quarters to spare, check it out right here! (It doesn’t actually cost anything; I’m being facetious, dammit.)
