While I might not be that excited about Warner Brothers’ romantic extravaganza He’s Just Not That Into You, audiences certainly were, doling out their dollars to give the film a final weekend boxoffice pull of $27.5 million (estimated).
The Qui-Gon-Jinn thriller Taken found second place with $20.3 million down only 18% from last weekend. Third was the 3D stop-motion film Coraline. The Henry “I-directed-Tim-Burton’s-Nightmare-Before-Christmas-and-stupid-audiences-don’t-give-me-enough-credit” Selick directed stop-motion flick took in $16.3 million, outperforming expectations.
Rounding out the top five were The Pink Panther 2 and Paul Blart: Mall Cop, proving once again that gimmicks, remakes and fat, blundering authority figures garner universal appeal. Panther, it should be noted, waaaay underperformed expectations, taking in just $12 million. The first installment in the Steve Martin led reboot took in $20 million its first weekend out.
